Interlace – Shyanne Clarke

Interlace is a visual tapestry mapping the transition and changing dynamic of the city centre from its previous recreational land form to its current constructed and inhabited forms of use. As an artist and textile designer, my work threads traces of human connection from the past and the future together in deeply layered works of story.

For this piece, it begins by hand, each element drafted in graphite and rendered in colour by pigment and brush. Each piece scanned and assembled together, like a jigsaw creating a larger whole.

Animated by paint and line, the Queensland wax flower, native to this region, blooms abundantly from winter to spring. During the coming months whilst this work is on display, we will see these flowers thrive around the Coast as this city starts to bloom with residents and new waves of workers.

The honeycomb is a strong structure built by teamwork and connection and it can be seen extensively in the structures both natural and man made. As the cool months transition to warmer and golden, the city centre begins to buzz with life, a hive space to grow, gather and connect. The role ofeach person is valuable to the whole and together, we create a flourishing community.

Into the future, the question I ask is how will you weave your story into the fabric of our dynamic city?
